The powerful enlightened activity of all the victorious ones of the three times,
Gathered into one, the compassionate sovereign, spontaneously accomplished Padmasambhava;
With fierce wrath born from compassion, he slays the armies of māras,
Protecting all beings according to their needs, all the way to supreme enlightenment.

Guru Padmasambhava, the Second Buddha, endowed with great compassion and skillful means, foresaw that in the future degenerate age, due to the karma of sentient beings, many non-human beings and māras would arise, obstructing the sacred Dharma and harming sentient beings. Therefore, he concealed many powerful practices for clearing obstacles and prophesied that future tertöns would reveal and spread them for the vast benefit of beings.

This is one such powerful treasure teaching revealed by the Great Tertön King Pema Lingpa according to Guru Rinpoche’s prophecy. The root treasure text states that this practice can “bring benefit and happiness to all sentient beings and remove all obstacles.” It is also known as The Great Powerful Wrathful Guru Rinpoche, the Great Red Garland of Flames, the Vajra Who Conquers All Māras.

This practice possesses immense power, especially in counteracting the most defiled of all obscurations—the obscuration caused by broken samaya. By relying on this practice, many adverse conditions may be cleared, and one may recover from the defilement of broken commitments. In addition, disturbances caused by humans and non-human beings, harm from nāgas, and disruptions caused by local deities can all be pacified and averted through this practice. Its benefits and qualities are truly inconceivable.

This teaching includes four accomplishment practices of Wrathful Guru Rinpoche: outer, inner, secret, and extremely secret unsurpassed suchness. The practice to be transmitted this time is the secret accomplishment practice, which gathers the essence of all accomplishment practices of Wrathful Guru Rinpoche.

This practice is also the uncommon Wrathful Guru practice of the Pema Lingpa lineage. It is an essential instruction for practicing the Guru and the Yidam as inseparable, and is the essence of the Peling lineage’s wrathful deity practices. In particular, if one becomes proficient in the practice of this wrathful form of Guru Rinpoche, one can easily understand the generation-stage practice of all wrathful deities. It is the root and foundation of all wrathful deity practices.
